There's More Art in a Swiss Warehouse Than in the Louvre. Here's Why That Matters.

1.2 million works worth around $100 billion. All locked away by collectors with no intention of exhibiting them. More art sits in the Geneva Freeport than in the Louvre.

The reason? It's the world's largest tax-free vault. Works are traded inside without ever crossing a border or appearing in any public record.

When that much inventory is effectively off the table, anytime something does circulate, it’s a rare occasion.

Just a three hour drive away, the world’s premier international art fair is one of those occasions. Art Basel is this month and needless to say, things will move fast. Serious collectors will make their transactions before doors even open to the wider public.

Masterworks' acquisition committee — former specialists from Sotheby's and Christie's — operate in that window. Purchased artworks here can even become the offerings that Masterworks members fractionally invest in

Their track record to-date?

  • $1.3B deployed across 530+ artworks featuring Banksy, Basquiat, Picasso, and Warhol

  • 29 sales to date

  • Net annualized returns like 16.5%, 17.6%, and 17.8%, not including those unsold*

Investing involves risk. Past performance is not indicative of future returns. See important Reg A disclosures at masterworks.com/cd.

❖   The Gripe   ❖
A Personal Affront, Reported Faithfully

My grocery store rearranged everything again. The mustard is where the bread used to be. The bread is gone, possibly for good. A kid in an apron explained it is a new layout 'designed for a better experience.' I have shopped there for thirty years. I did not ask for a better experience. I asked for mustard.

❖   The Damage Report   ❖
Today's News, Ranked By How Much It Ruined My Mood
🔥 Most Enraging
They replaced the people who knew where the bodies were buried with software, and now they are calling them back, one gray beard at a time. This is the equivalent of me buying a vacuum to figure out if Larry's dogfood was good.
😩 Most Exhausting
It took a law. An actual law, passed by an actual legislature, to make the ads stop shouting at me. I have a remote with forty buttons and not one of them does this.
😤 Unreasonably Annoying
Someone turned Wordle into a science experiment and ruined the one nice thing I do before coffee.
🤷 Somehow Also Happening
An elephant seal turned purple and biologists had to rule out a grape-juice bath before they landed on algae. I've been warning my relatives for years that algae is finally making its move.
❖   And Some Other Stuff   ❖
Briefly, And With Limited Enthusiasm
Astronomers confirmed two Jupiter-sized 'super-puff' planets lighter than cotton candy — Two planets the size of Jupiter, light as cotton candy, out there minding their business. I would like to be that big and that weightless.
A $60 gadget called Brick locks you out of your phone apps until you physically tap it — They are selling a sixty-dollar brick that stops you from looking at your phone. We had bricks when I was young. They came off the chimney, and they were free.
A Domino's manager made three pizzas in 31.22 seconds to win World's Fastest Pizza Maker — A man made three pizzas in thirty-one seconds and won a championship belt for it. It takes me thirty-one seconds to stand up. He can keep the belt.
Larry needs a walk and I need a nap.
